The Grinch

An R-Rated Grinch Horror Movie is Coming this Christmas

There seems to be a growing trend of filmmakers hellbent on ruining everyone’s childhood. Earlier this year, we saw the world’s favourite fictional teddy bear Winnie-the-Pooh turned into a horrific murderer, and now The Grinch is getting the same treatment. Titled The Mean One, Dr. Seuss’ beloved Christmas anti-hero character is set to become a serial killer in a forthcoming slasher film. Can we get Jim Carey on board?

According to a report from ComicBook.com, XYZ Films announced the upcoming slasher parody will roughly follow the classic material from Dr.Seuss’ 1957 book How the Grinch Stole Christmas. However, they’ll add in a bunch of blood and guts. Fun!

“As a passionate fan of seasonal horror (and the TERRIFIER franchise), The Mean One is exactly the kind of film that lands on my personal ‘nice list,’ XYZ Films’ Manager of Acquisitions and Development Alex Williams said in a statement. “This movie is a stunningly great time with a ferociously subversive turn from David Howard Thornton – and XYZ Films is so proud to be bringing this soon-to-be iconic Christmas slasher to audiences this holiday season.”

The film has been directed by David Howard Thornton, with a script penned by Flip and Finn Kobler. Thornton will also star on screen, alongside a cast including the likes of Krystle Martin, Chase Mullins, John Bigham, Erik Baker, Flip Kobler, and Amy Schumacher.

According to an official synopsis, “The Mean One is a hairy, green-skinned grump in a Santa suit, living on a mountain high above the town of Newville, despising the holiday season. Young Cindy You-Know-Who, whose parents were butchered by The Mean One twenty Christmases earlier, is returning to town to seek closure… but is about to discover that this fiend with a heart two sizes to small is still quite eager to carve the roast beast.”

While a trailer is yet to be revealed, The Mean One is scheduled to drop on December 15.
